CRO consultants send a quote or proposal before any audit, research project, or testing program starts. Clients usually compare your price to other consultants, agencies, or an in-house hire, so the proposal needs to be clear about what is delivered and what is not promised.
When to use estimates: Use estimates to provide project quotes and get client approval before starting work. Once approved, convert your estimate to an invoice with one click to collect payment.

An audit of the checkout is different from one covering the entire site. Naming pages and desktop versus mobile prevents scope creep.
Delays often come from missing analytics, tag manager, or testing tool access. State what is required and when, and note that delays may move deadlines.
Specify whether the work includes analytics review, heatmaps, surveys, user testing, or customer interviews, and how many of each.
Clarify how many experiments are included and whether you, the client's developers, or a contractor build the variants and handle QA.
List reports, prioritized roadmaps, test plans, or recorded walkthroughs so the client knows what they will receive and when.
Test outcomes depend on traffic, offers, and implementation. A clear statement protects you from disputes if lift targets are missed.
State who pays for testing and research tools and the minimum traffic needed to run valid tests, since low traffic can extend timelines.

Typical US ranges. Rates vary by region, experience, and job size.
Present two or three options, such as audit only, audit plus roadmap, and audit plus three months of testing. Clients can choose a level without negotiating down your rate.
An audit gives you data before committing to a long retainer and gives the client a low-risk way to start. Credit part of the audit fee toward a retainer if they sign on.
Reviewing recordings, cleaning up analytics, and writing up results take longer than building a test. Include that time so your quote isn't low.
Pricing depends on your availability and the client's traffic and site setup. A 14-30 day expiration keeps old quotes from being used after the situation changes.
A short teardown of a page or two can work as a sales tool, but a full audit takes real effort and is better paid. Many consultants offer a free call and a paid audit as the first step.
Offer a small paid discovery phase to review data and set scope, or quote a range with clear assumptions. Confirm the final price once you've seen the analytics and site setup.
Explain that you can commit to a process, number of tests, and deliverables, but not to a specific outcome. If they insist, a small performance bonus above a base fee is a safer structure.
