Print buyers usually ask for quotes before ordering and often get two or three to compare, sometimes at several quantities. A quote is typically tied to specs, quantity, and turnaround, so even small changes can shift the price. Clients tend to compare the per-unit price at each quantity, the stock, and the delivery date.

A change from 8.5x11 to 9x12 can alter the sheet layout and paper waste, which changes the price.
Naming stock such as 100# gloss text or 14pt C2S avoids substitutions that lead to disputes.
4/4, 4/1, and spot colors are priced differently, and PMS matching adds cost.
Pricing is tied to the run length, and a stated variance prevents arguments about count.
Folding, scoring, die cutting, coating, drilling, and binding each add setup and run charges.
State file format, bleed, and resolution, and say that file correction or design is billed hourly if files arrive incorrect.
Digital versus hard-copy proofs, production days after approval, and shipping or pickup terms shape both cost and schedule.

Show 500, 1,000, and 2,500 on the same quote. Setup costs are fixed, so the higher quantity often costs little more per piece and can lift your average order size.
Know your make-ready, plate, and cleanup costs so you can price reruns and short quantities accurately, even if the client sees only a total.
Paper, freight, and ink prices change. A 30-day validity period protects your margin.
Quote a standard turnaround and a priced rush option, typically 20-50% more, so the client decides what speed is worth.
Thirty days is common. For jobs that depend on volatile paper pricing or long lead times, 14 days may be safer.
Simple jobs are quoted free. For packaging, custom dies, or multi-piece projects that take hours of estimating or sample building, some printers charge a fee that is credited if the client orders.
Issue a revised quote. State on the original that the price applies only to the listed specs, quantity, and artwork, and that changes will be re-priced.
It is a common and reasonable request. Special-order stock and custom tooling are hard to resell, so a deposit covering those costs is standard practice.
